In The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side, Agatha Christie tells the sad story of fictional actress Marina Gregg, whose story was inspired by real actress Gene Tierney.
It starts with a fading actress approached by a fan who, all aflutter, tells the star that it's not the first time they've met--that years before, the fan sneaked out of quarantine and into the backstage area and got an autograph. She was so proud of herself and her adventure!
And lo, the star stares at the person who, years ago, infected her with German measles--barely more than a rash and a cold to an adult, but so very contagious, and so very dangerous to a pregnant woman...
Gene Tierney just turned and walked away.
Marina Gregg at least got to kill the bitch.
