Dream: Worst game ever.
I dreamt that I bought a Sims game from some guy, but it wouldn't work. He brought by a replacement game in hopes of not damaging his sales cred, but in the process he also brought over a bedbug that had burrowed under the packaging.
Part of the dream--an embarrassing amount, really--involved trying to smash this damn bug and missing, or it being uninjured because it was tougher than it looked.
He returned to pick up the broken game and stuck around to complain about his sister-in-law; it had something to do with the game, but I can't remember what at this point. As he yapped, I thought, How many has he brought in?
Notes, details and explanations
#1. Ever had a bedbug infestation? There's a reason PTSD post-bedbugs is being more commonly reported. And if you think that's an overreaction to a few silly bugs, congrats on not having had to live with an infestation. I haven't seen a bedbug since March, but I still wig out at any stray movement in the dark. I still worry about bringing a blanket from one room to the next, or letting the edge of my bed sheet touch the floor. I still panic at every odd itch, and get psychosomatic flashback hives that last for hours.
And I still won't say I'm bedbug-free, because that might jinx it. They can live up to 18 months without feeding--and how do I know they haven't cornered a mouse, or nipped the neighbor, or...
Imagine having a fear of water and living on an island. It's just inescapable.
#2. I recently talked about putting the makeshift canopy back on my bed, to keep in the warmth and keep out the morning light. I pulled it down a few winters ago because of the bedbug problem. I also brought a blanket in from the other room last night for the chill. The aforementioned worry was the first thing to come to mind: "Is it bug-free?" I've no doubt this sparked the dream.
#3. They are tougher than they look. The whole "swat it and nothing happens" thing is very real.
#4. The game in the dream is one I'm waiting on for my nephew. I'm guessing that the complaint about the sister-in-law might be a sideways guilty fear, a lingering "I hope I didn't pass this on to anyone else" thought. I was careful to the point of OCD, but with these things, that's no guarantee.
Questions, interpretations and ideas are welcome!
