oh man, I LOATHED Catcher in the Rye when I had to read it. I never understood why people even liked it. Holden was a whiny bitch.

Holy fuck, yes. I just want to hit him with a baseball bat, and that was when I'd barely cracked the book.

I also don't get how this oh so revolutionary opening is so impressive. Maybe it's an era-specific thing, maybe you had to be there, but I wasn't and it just reads like a brat to me.
