You make me want to cough in your fruit cup.

"If you have the flu, stay home."

Okay.

Are you going to pay my rent then? Will you call up the electric and gas company and ask them to give me a pass? You don't get sick days in your first year with my company, or if you're under a certain number of hours, so I'm going to need you to hand over the monetary equivalent of few days' pay to cover the bills, because I would like to not be homeless for the holidays, thanks.

Oh, and you'll need to talk to my boss while you're at it, because if you're sick two or more days running, you can't come back without a statement from a doctor, and my insurance through said employer doesn't kick in until the turn of the year (love how that works--I'm insured, but not really!), so obviously I'm not going near a doctor or hospital unless it's that or death.

You want me to put the community first and quarantine myself? Why? The community doesn't give a damn about me. The community wants to wave pitchforks and rant about 'death panels' and 'Obamabots'. Fuck the community--I'll lick my hand before I shake theirs, and they can worry about whether or not they can afford to call their doctor or call in sick.

I don't give a gold-plated fuck which side of the two-party delusion you vote for, because I don't believe a single fucking one of you ranting and raving and name-calling over political points gives a shit about me waiting for shitty insurance to kick in so I can finally see if there's a scarier reason why I've been sick all summer, or about my friend who's going to lose her family's insurance coverage in a few days, or the lady I met earlier this week who wouldn't be walking if a local hospital weren't willing to cover the tab completely, and who'll still be suffering in the months ahead as the residual bills pile up.

"Stay home," my ass. Fuck you. Come get your share of the flu, motherfucker. If it's the piggy type, I'm taking as many of you as I can with me.

Re: previous post...

Yes, I wash my hands and cough into my elbow, and no, I don't set out to spread my germs intentionally.

It was hyperbole.

But I don't stay home when I'm sick unless I'm physically unable to work, and that's not going to change, because I can't afford it.

Don't like it?

How convenient that health care reform is in the news lately then, eh?
